There is a lot of evidence to suggest that Glycine, when combined with a simple carbohydrate, can improve lean growth and recovery. It is thought that this combination can promote a greater glucose uptake compared to ingesting glucose alone. The combination of carbohydrates and Glycine can result in a greater use of glucose for energy before exercise or for recovery after exercise.Glycine is recognised as a neurotransmitter in the central nervous system and has also been shown to exhibit anti-inflammatory, antispastic, and antipsychotic activity.

Glycine is used for treating schizophrenia, stroke, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), and some rare inherited metabolic disorders. It is also used to protect kidneys from the harmful side effects of certain drugs used after organ transplantation as well as the liver from harmful effects of alcohol. Other uses include cancer prevention and memory enhancement.
